This species can be distinguished from pyrolaria as follows (Rindge 1952):
1) FW lines more distinct and complete
2) discal spot less distinct and not so elongate
3) wing with yellow-orange tint
4) range

   




Range

Distribution pattern: Texas (and maybe Midwestern?)
The ranges of the 3 species of Exelis are mostly non-overlapping. This species appears to occur only in eastern and central Texas, with one specimen known from Illinois.
